Attention Deficit Disorder in Adults
Until recently - in my world at least - ADD was something kids had. Then my long-suffering Mom came across a book, "Driven to Distraction", and passed it on to me to read. After reading the book, and identifying almost 100% with the stories in it, I took myself off to a psychiatrist for a diagnosis. All the signs were there, and after a long discussion, the decision was made to try Ritalin as a medication. A year' later, I can honestly say that this has been the most liberating, empowering, remarkable discovery of my life. I cannot express my relief. I cannot tell you what it is to feel a joy for being alive I thought I would never experience.

Reading the book, and speaking to people who have ADD, you will hear the same stories over and over again. Feelings of failure at work, in' relationships and other aspects of life, depression, feeling misunderstood, substance-abuse - you will have your own stories to tell! This may then be the answer that you have been looking for.

There seems very little information available for the adult with ADD - in fact, it is still associated exclusively with children by most . It is important for you to know that it is now recognised that ADD commonly extends into adulthood. A recent program on "3-Talk" dealt with this phenomenon. Through these pages, I hope to build up a network of information and support. It is totally non-profit, and the views expressed are my own. I welcome any contributions to the site - especially simply your story. Ultimately it would be great to establish a support group for ourselves and our loved ones.

I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. These pages are my own personal experiences and opinions only, and are meant simply to share my experiences with others in the hope that they will find help and support.
