It feels to me like Microsoft is battling to place its various Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) offerings. I am currently using Microsoft Bing’s AI-powered chat search as well as Microsoft Creator. I opened Edge this evening to the below announcement inviting me to “Unleash your productivity and creativity with Copilot”.

1. Copilot

Microsoft says that “Copilot helps you achieve things like never before using the power of AI.” [1]

Note specifically that in the image below it states, “with Bing Chat”.

UPDATE — 17 November 2023: Microsoft has officially rebranded Bing as Copilot, which both explains the origin of my confusion and resolves the questions it raised. [2]

2. Image Creator

3. Microsoft Designer

And if that is not confusing, clicking on one of Image Creator‘s AI-generated images will take you to a full browser window preview with a link to Microsoft’s Designer (which seems set to go head-to-head with Canva).

I struggled with the interface, and I could also not do things which I would have imagined would be simple, such as define the exact dimensions for an image.

The grammarly icon.grammarly is an “all-in-one writing assistant for desktop & browser”.

4. Microsoft Editor

Then there is Microsoft’s Editor — to take Grammarly on? Editor already exists in Word 365, so it will be interesting to see how it can be pulled together across different apps and platforms.

A quick delve into Editor’s settings reveals some exciting-looking features, and while I still have Grammarly installed on my home PC, I have now activated Editor on my work laptop.
